Operation Christmas Child Hits New High With Southwood!
For years, Southwood has participated in Samaritan’s Purses’ Operation Christmas Child Shoe Box Project but 2008 marked an all time high for Southwood’s involvement! It is an easy thing to fill a shoe box (or shoe box size plastic container) with goodies such as hard candy, a flash light, socks, coloring book, small toys, soap, tooth brush, etc and yet it can give such tremendous joy to those who receive them in war torn and poverty stricken placed in the world. This coupled with the gospel in the language of the recipient helps bring Christ to people and places that need Him desperately.
In the past, Southwood’s participation in this project has primarily been through the childrens ministry and other interested folks. Over the past couple of year, our entire congregation has embraced this opportunity to serve full force and given abundantly.
Even in the midst of a sagging economy that impacts us all, Southwood filled 100 more boxes than last year bringing in 750 boxes for 2008!
Thanks go to Nina Banta for organizing this year’s project, our 3rd/4th graders for handing out plastic boxes, our Singles Ministry for organizing and counting boxes on the “turn in day,” our 5th/6th graders for packing up and delivering the boxes to our local collection center and all those who filled a box.
