new sunday seminars begin may 13
We are upon our summer Trimester of Sunday Seminars. Our goal hasn’t changed: to teach seminary level class curricula in a relaxed, interactive environment.
The summer trimester of Sunday Seminars (May 13 - August 26, 2012) will begin Sunday morning, May 13 at 9:30 am, with each seminar teacher providing a ten-minute overview of his or her class curriculum. This “round robin” format will allow for anyone interested in attending one of these classes to hear from each teacher to better understand the course they may choose to attend.
There will be one hour of Sunday Seminars offered this trimester. The class subjects, teachers and a short summary of each are provided for your review.
Welcome to Southwood
Will Spink
This class will introduce you to the basics of Christianity, Southwood, and church membership. While you may pursue formal church membership at the end, this is not the primary goal. The objective is to help you get connected to the body of Christ, to answer your questions, and to help you get involved with the mission of Southwood.
The Book of 1 John
Mike Stanfield / Jeremy McCoy
Pastoral and doctrinal. John clearly has a pastoral concern for his readers all the while tackling great doctrinal subjects, knowing the truth is essential to a joyful Christian life. John addresses the recipients as dear little ones as he encourages them through his expression of love and truth. We can have great assurance through our relationship to the Father of who He is, and the security we have by our faith.
Spiritual Disciplines
Mark Baginski
“The desperate need today is not for a greater number of intelligent people, or gifted people, but for deep people.” (R. J. Foster) If you would like to become a deeper person then join us for a study of the spiritual disciplines. In this class we will study the disciplines such as Meditation, Prayer, Fasting, and Simplicity using the book Celebration of Discipline by Richard J. Foster as a guide. “God has given us the Disciplines of the spiritual life as a means of receiving His grace. The Disciplines allow us to place ourselves before God so that He can transform us.”—Celebration of Discipline
Reconciliation - Mirrored Redemption
Mark Wolfson / Alan Judge
In coordination with Peacemaker Ministries (www.peacemaker.net), this class will present an in-depth follow-up to the Peacemaker Ministries seminars held April 21 and 22. Utilizing scriptures as the primary source, it will expand on the concepts of reconciliation that were highlighted in these seminars under the titles of “Slippery Slope of Conflict,” the “4 Gs of Peacemaking,” the “7 ‘A’s of Confession,” and the “Four Promises of Forgiveness.”
