Penn Jillette: A Gift of a Bible

Penn Jillette: A Gift of a Bible

The link for the video by magician Penn, of Penn and Teller, was used as a sermon illustration in worship this past Sunday. If you did not get to view it, please do. In light of Sunday’s sermon, I have included some quotes I used for discussion starters after watching the video with those who you work with, share a neighborhood with, travel to sports tournaments with or spend a family reunion weekend with.

Passage of the Week: 2 Corinthians 5:9-6:1
We looked at Paul’s Motivation, Message and Ministry and considered our calling to advance God’s Kingdom by making fully devoted followers of Christ.

In D.A. Carson’s book, The Difficult Love of God, he asks a very contemplative question:
If the Greatest Commandment is: Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength, then wouldn’t the greatest sin be to not love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength?

This also leads us to another practical question: If the second greatest commandment is like the first; and is to love your neighbor as yourself, then wouldn’t the second greatest sin be to not love your neighbor as you love yourself?

Watch the following video blog and consider his challenge to us as Christians in regards to loving our neighbors as ourselves.
