The Village in the Summer

Spring 2008 has been a blur of activity in Lincoln Village and summer has arrived. After completing a great school year which included Lincoln Elementary and The LINC, our after-school program, preparing our students for the April assessments, we look to see how our students improved on their already outstanding performances. Spring also brought the privilege of hosting two different groups of college students for a week in March. During two different weeks, we housed, fed, educated and worked with 27 students from Vanderbilt University and Wheaton College.

We just moved three families into newly renovated houses. The design and demolition of two other properties which will keep us busy for the remainder of 2009.

Summer is busy in the Village. It is a great time for us to enjoy the students of Lincoln in a variety of different settings. The ministry’s desire to be able to expand our kids’ horizons and expose them to the world beyond the Village happens during summertime. To this end, summer 2009 will include some of the following:

• 30+ kids will be going to Kids Across American @ Camp Kannakuk in Missouri.
• 20+ students will participate in a 2-week ballet camp complete with final recital performance.
• 20 students will participate in a theatre program supported by Fantasy Playhouse and concludes with a public performance on June 27 at 1:00PM or 4:00PM.

Our wrestling and tumbling programs will be more in-depth due to more available time for practice and competitions and two students competing in San Jose, CA in the USA Gymnastics Jr. Olympics.

15 – 20 students will participate in a week-long music workshop. The opportunity to be introduced to a variety of musical instruments and training in song-writing is the focus. Their songs may be recorded by various professional artists and musicians from Huntsville and Nashville.

Swimming pools, fishing trips, camping trips and just hanging out, complete a fun-filled summer.

We also have the opportunity to host many different church youth groups from around town. We are also hosting groups for extended visits from as far away as Chicago.

There are many ways that you and your family can participate in the summer activities with Lincoln Village. Contact us and we will be happy to get you plugged in. Come and join the fun and excitement. Contact: Dale Bowen (.(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)) or Karen Taylor (.(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address))
