Lincoln Village Updates
LINCOLN ELEMENTARY: Even though the school is one of many in the Huntsville City School system to be closed the school still continues to draw national attention. It has been asked to apply again for the Panasonic National School Change Award and the Blue Ribbon School Award. Volunteers from NASA have visited the school (including the new administrator, Charles Bolden) to view and learn how to duplicate the Science Lab. It has a new program this year called Learning from Lincoln where other teachers from the City come to learn from the 3rd grade math teachers at Lincoln.
THANKSGIVING TURKEYS: 30 families at Lincoln Elementary received baskets filled with canned goods and a fresh turkey for Thanksgiving.
HARVEST MINISTRIES: All the individuals who regularly attend the Tuesday morning worship service received Thanksgiving turkeys.
TUTORING PROGRAM: Jackson Way Baptist Church met with Lincoln village ministries during their missions conference this month and made the decision to team with us and provide 53 tutors along with school supplies at Chapman Middle School. This will allow Lincoln Village Ministries to continue to follow students as they leave Lincoln Elementary School- thereby continuing to influence those students. Chapman Middle has received us with open arms.
HOUSING: We are nearing completion of 1107 Bennett Street and another home on Taylor Street should be ready for drywall over the holidays. We will be hosting 12 students from Vanderbilt in January to work in the Village.
Lincoln Village Needs
CHRISTMAS SPONSORSHIPS: By the time you read this, our sponsorships for Lincoln Village families will be well underway. However, there is still plenty of time before Christmas if your group is interested in providing Christmas gifts for a needy Lincoln family. Please email Charlene Pinke at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). Charlene will assist you in choosing a family to fit your groups giving capability. Gifts may be delivered to the family or to Charlene at Lincoln Elementary School by December 18.
CHILDREN’S CLOTHING CLOSET: The Lincoln clothing closet is bare. We are in need of clothes sizes 4T-16 for both boys and girls. Clothes are kept at the Clothing Closet to be used for children who need them and with the economy what it is, there are more needs than usual this year. We especially need sweat suits, as they stretch to fit, however, all gently used clothing is greatly appreciated. Coats and jackets are needed also!
