Pastor’s Note
Less is more! Those three words are in the Bible — just not in that order. The concept is there for sure. For example, when Jesus summarizes the 10 Commandments with two in Matthew 22 (Love God, Love others) He was simplifying for clarity and power.
Another example of simplifying is found in John 13 when Jesus says here’s a summarizing “new commandment” that I give you: “that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” Keep it simple, love each other, and the result will be huge: A watching world will see and know that you belong to Jesus.
Keep it simple…less is more.
So here’s the point. On the one hand, Jesus has given us a huge and complex charge: expand the Kingdom throughout the word and change it! But on the other hand, He simplifies it for us and prescribes a simple step we can all take: love each other, both believers and non-believers.
Our vision statement is aligned with Jesus’ charge and is necessarily complex calling us “to advance the Kingdom of God in… the world.” And so, what we need is a simple step with a huge result; a step that demonstrates the love of God to another person.
So this Christmas season you can take a simple step such as filling a shoebox for Operation Christmas Child or adopting a family at Lincoln Village. Keep it simple. Less can be more, and make a huge difference for the Kingdom and the Glory of Christ!
