They are Marshall
Verne and Alina Marshall serve with Mission to the World (MTW) in Santiago, Chile. They were in the U.S. for the wedding of their son, Naphtali, to a missionary kid from Ecuador, Alyssa Fowler. The wedding was held in Bangor, Maine where Alyssa’s father pastors a Community Church. Verne and Alina decided to extend their stay in the US to Jan. 6 upon receiving word from MTW that their support trend was downward. Since flights are so expensive they chose to stay longer during this visit rather than return for a regularly scheduled Home Ministry Assignment in a few months. In Chile, Verne teaches at two seminaries. One of the difficult challenges the students face is the decision to retain the teaching they have heard during their seminary years or give in to the politics of their denomination. They have been taught that the Bible is the Word of God without error and infallible in its original documents, and that it alone is objectively authoritative. This view clashes with that of most of the leaders in their denomination which is that the Bible contains the word of God, and truth is relative. Verne is also the founder and coordinator of Center Mathetes which is a “think tank” of men and women who study the church and the culture to inform Christian leaders of trends and dangers. The Center also offers difficult-to-find materials in print, video, and seminars. Conferences and retreats are also held at Center Mathetes. The Marshalls continue to work in church planting in Chile and Brazil and live in Santiago with their other children, Larissa, Christopher, Stefan and Anelise.
