Easter Lilies
The feeling of Spring was in the air and the scent of Easter lilies filled the Southwood Sanctuary. Thanks to the loving hands of the Flower Guild committee, led by Jane Bise, our church was filled with joy, spring blooms, sweet scents, and busy ladies bringing out the cross and draping it with cloth and flowers this past Easter Sunday. The Flower Guild, which has been in existence since 1995, arranges the flowers in the sanctuary each Sunday, and is usually called upon for decorating in anticipation of fellowship events. When asked what flowers were used to decorate the church this Easter, Jane Bise shares “we use whatever God has blessed us with that week. This year it may be flowering quince and Lenten roses because we are having a late winter. Often we have azaleas, bridal wreath spirea, and cherry blossoms. We, of course, order Easter lilies to honor family or commemorate loved ones. We will have our silver trumpet vases filled with pink ginger and antherium and cut Easter lilies.”
Many women serve on the Flower Guild, and provide fresh cut flowers from their own gardens each week. The Flower Guild would especially like to thank Caroline Respess who is retiring from the Guild after many years serving as their coordinator for Sunday memorials and special honorariums.
If you would be interested in serving on the Flower Guild committee, please contact Jane Bise. Let’s share God’s beautiful creation with the entire congregation!
