Charles Amicy: MTW Missionary
Southwood missionary, Charles Amicy is a national Haitian ministering with Mission to the World (MTW). He and his wife, Antonine, have four children ages 9-17. In 1997, Charles began Presbyterian Missions in Haiti, one of the most under-developed countries in the Western Hemisphere and one of the poorest in the world. Haiti is often called the “Black Hole of Missions” and over 2000 different mission organizations are ministering in this country. But, even with so many reaching out, Haiti’s needs continue to rise with a population of 8.9 million people and an unemployment rate of 75%. Since 1997, with a vision of bringing the Gospel to the lost souls in Haiti, five churches have been planted and four churches have a school and an orphanage attached. Plans are underway for a sixth church, school, and orphanage in Port-au-Prince. Charles has a full-time pastor/headmaster for each church/school and he himself preaches at a different church each week. He also has an on-going training program for his pastors and young church leaders. Charles has developed his own Sunday school lessons and translated several key books such as the The Shorter Catechism into Creole and French.
The recent hurricanes have left significant damage over the Haitian land and much help in needed to rebuild and restore the homes and lives of those affected. The Amicys continue to see God supply all their needs and advance his kingdom through their service, the many missions teams that come and serve and the growing church in Haiti. Community development, a significant medical ministry and short term missions teams are all tools he is using to advance his kingdom in Haiti.
