Southwood Presbyterian Church

KidsWorship is Southwood's ministry to PreK/K in their transition from nursery to siting in big church for the whole service. PreK/K have the option of being dismissed the KidsWorship to help prepare them for when they get to remain in the sanctuary for the whole service as 1st graders.

The Co-Lead for 11am will serve under the direction of our KidsWorship Coordinator, Kim Watkins. The Co-Lead will ensure that all children arrive upstairs safely and together, everyone gets a name tag, takes attendance and is responsible for releasing children to their parents upon pick up. The Co-Lead also sits with the children during the lesson and assists the volunteer helpers in whatever is required for activities, etc coming from the teacher. The Co-Lead is that familiar and friendly face to parents and children from week to week that provides relational continuity.

Time Commitment: Approximately every other Sunday during the school year (Aug 19, 2012 - May 31, 2013) during the late worship service (when the PreK/K are dismissed for KidsWorship).

Volunteers will provide companionship for one of our special needs members; Brandon (age 16). Volunteers are not responsible for Brandon's physical needs (taken care of by a trained worker joining our volunteers). This is a very tangible and loving way to serve him and his family on Sunday mornings.

To be a companion, you must be a Southwood member and successfully complete an application which includes a background check.

Time Commitment: During the 11am worship service for one Sunday every third month from either from 10:55am - 12:10am.

During Sunday mornings, greet families and children who participate in nursery, KidsWorship and Children's Sunday School. Greeters also have an informational/directional presence specific to Children's Ministry to help visitors and members alike. In addition, Greeters help ensure the comfort and safety of our our nursery and 2nd floor (PreK-6th.)

Greeters must be Southwood members who successfully complete an application which includes a background check.

Time Commitment: Greeters serve each week throughout the school year (Aug 19, 2012 - May 31, 2013) from 9:30- 10:50am.

KidsWorship is designed for children who are PreK/K during the sermon portion of the worship services. Those who assist with KidsWorship provide them with loving supervision and facilitation of games and activities.

To assist in KidsWorship, you must be a Southwood member and successfully complete an application which includes a background check.

Time Commitment: As needed on Sundays, through the school year (Aug 19, 2012 - May 31, 2013) during the sermon portion of the worship service at either the 8:30 or 11:00am worship service (only one). Remaining Needs and Time Commitments: * 8:00 service time - 2 adults to serve once a month. * 9:30 service time - 1 adult to serve on a weekly basis. * 11:00 service time - 1 adult to serve once a month.

Teaching children creatively in one of our large group environments on Sunday mornings.

The following opportunities are still open:
KidsWorship (PreK/K) - 1 teacher (teaches at both the 1st and 2nd service KidsWorship).
Promise Path (PreK/K) - 1 teacher during the Sunday School hour.
Hwy 34 (3rd/4th grade) - 1 teacher during the Sunday School hour.


To teach, you must be a Southwood member and successfully complete and application which includes a background check.

Time Commitment: Sundays, once a month, through the school year (Aug 19, 2012 - May 31, 2013). Teaching time on Sunday mornings is approximately 20 minutes. Prep time is anywhere from 1-2 hours per lesson.

Small group co-leaders serve a singular small group of children in which they build relationships, provide continuity, supervision and facilitate application and accountability based on the day's teaching (discussion material provided).

Opportunities are available in PreK/K, 3rd/4th and 5th/6th grade.

To co-lead a small group, you must be a Southwood member and successfully complete an application which includes a background check.

Time Commitment: Sundays through the school year (Aug 19, 2012 - May 31, 2013) from 9:30 - 10:55am. For 5th/6th grade, it also includes the summer. While Sunday School is from 9:45-10:45am, we need our group leaders in place to receive children up to 15 minutes prior to Sunday School to 10 minutes after Sunday School for parent pick up, etc. Remaining Needs and time commitment: * 1 Co-Leader for Promise Pasth (PreK/K) to serve on a weekly basis. * 1 Co-Leaders for Hwy 34 (3rd/4th Graders) to serve on a weekly basis. * 1 Male Co-Leader for Ascent (5th/6th Graders) to serve on a weekly basis. * 1 Female Co-Leader for Ascent (5th/6th Graders) to serve on a weekly basis.
