Current Opportunities
- Provide breakfast for 16 children at Lincoln Academy
Provide breakfast for ONE WEEK for 16 students at the new Lincoln Academy. You may buy it on the weekend and drop it off at Village Church either Sunday afternoon or Monday morning for the whole week. If you're unable to do the shopping you may also donate funds for breakfast and they'll shop for you. Suggested breakfast items include: milk, cereal, bagels, fruit, yogurt, juice, etc...
- Bring Lunch to Christian Women’s Job Corps
Provide a quick, nutritious lunch for 10-15 Christian Women's Job Corps participants at the Whitesburg Baptist Church "The Place". Meals should be delivered at 11, and you are welcome to stay through 11:45 to have lunch with the ladies. Lunches are needed Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays.
- Sort clothes at the Neighborhood Thrift Store
Help the Neighborhood Thrift Store sort donated clothes and meet some of the neighbors and clients.
- Be a Client Advocate at Choose Life
Provide options-counseling for women who are facing crisis pregnancies. Share the Gospel and teach abstinence and character education to people facing sexual pressure. (Training is provided.)
- Be a Client Advocate IN SPANISH at Choose Life
Provide options-counseling for women who are facing crisis pregnancies. Share the Gospel and teach abstinence and character education to people facing sexual pressure. A number of women coming to Choose Life are Spanish speaking, and Choose Life desperately needs qualified client advocates who can clearly communicate with the girls in Spanish, but also communicate with the staff in English. (Training is provided to Choose Life Client Advocates)
- Host a baby shower for Second Mile’s Baby Thrift Store
Host a baby shower for new and gently used baby clothes, toys, books, strollers, diapers, and other supplies. Maternity clothes are also welcome. These items are sold at the Neighborhood Baby Thrift Store at a considerably reduced price. Children's clothes accepted through size 4T.
- Provide lawn care through the CARE Center’s Adopt a Grandparent ministry
This is opportunity for High School students to express love & grace by assisting the elderly with their lawn care needs through the Care Center's Adopt a Grandparent ministry. Middle School students are welcome with parental supervision.
- Serve as a team member for the Bags of Blessings program at the CARE Center
This ministry secures food for impoverished children over the weekend and holiday breaks throughout the school year. You would serve as a team member to assist with planning meals, comparison shopping, purchasing, packing, and delivering food.

- Provide Sunday morning music support as a vocalist
Provide worship leadership to the congregation through singing. Considerable experience and proficiency are strongly preferred. Must go through and audition process.
- Cook and serve food for Sunday School
Cook and/or serve breakfast for sunday school to Jr. high and Sr. high students and leaders.
- Provide snacks for High-Life
Provide snacks for high-life one or more Sunday nights during the school year. We ask volunteers to make homemade items for 100 students. A mix of sweet and salty is always preferred.
- Hang out with students at High-Life
Hang out with students at High-Life. Volunteers need to have a love for students and a heart to serve in areas of greeting, photography, serving drinks, set-up, and clean-up.
- Provide instrumental music for Sunday morning worship
Perform instrumental music to support Sunday morning worship. Prior experience and a high level of instrumental proficiency are strongly preferred. Must go through an audition process.
- Run slideshow presentation for Sunday morning worship service
Manage slideshow presentation for sunday morning worship service. Previous experience with ProPresenter and Mac computers is preffered but we are willing to train those who have none
- Run sound for Sunday morning worship service
Manage audio for Sunday morning worship. Previous audio experience is preferable but we are willing to train those who have none.
- Hang out with students at Sunday School
Hang out with students at Sunday School. Volunteers need to have a love for students and willing to greet, serve drinks, initiate conversation, set-up, and clean-up.
- Teach Sunday School
Teach Sunday school for the Sr. High class on Sunday mornings. Your involvement will be focused on the 30-45 minute teaching time during each Sunday morning class.
- Co-lead a Sr. High small group
Co-lead a small group of high school students ranging from 9-12th grade various days of the week. Small group leaders are required to engage in the High-Life community by attending either Sunday School or High-Life each week, retreats, and special events throughout the year.
Serving Groups
- Southwood Servers – these women serve side by side in the kitchen during church-wide dinners, receptions, and other events where food is served. Contact Sharon Dutcher, .
- Flower Guild – This ministry provides flowers for our worship service each Sunday. No prior training is necessary to serve on the Flower Guild. You will be paired with an experienced member to learn how to arrange the sanctuary flowers that enhance our worship each week. Contact Jane Bise, 539-6541.
- Assimilation – This important ministry ensures that every woman feels like her church is a church home. A new members’ dinner is held to welcome new members to the church, and assistance is offered in helping new members find their niche and meet new friends. Contact Sharon Dutcher, .
- Music – We need women for our women’s Bible study, Morning Edition, who will play instruments and lead in singing. Contact Debbie Jones, 489-4904.
- Bible Study – Morning Edition Bible study needs women who are willing to help with a variety of tasks such as setting up the coffee time, planning luncheons, coordinating the nursery, and handling various administrative tasks. Contact Debbie Jones, 489-4904.
- Lincoln Village – A variety of service opportunities exists at Lincoln Village including tutoring, painting, stocking the food pantry. Contact Karen Taylor
- Decorating – Whether it is making centerpieces for an event, Bible study, or redoing a Sunday School room, women with decorating skills are always needed. Contact Karen Parks, 882-3085, Ext. 110.
- College Student Goodie Boxes – Each December, college students preparing for exams appreciate receiving a box of homemade goodies. This event is usually held immediately after Thanksgiving and requires organization, good cooks, and eager workers. Contact Anne Thompson, 880-1483.
- New Mothers Ministry – We welcome all new babies at Southwood by visiting their mothers and delivering a gift for their new baby. If you would like to help welcome these babies, please contact Mary Schick.
- Meals Ministry – Southwood provides meals to our members who have had a baby, been in the hospital, or experienced a death in the immediate family. Willing hands of good cooks are always needed to serve in this important ministry. Contact Will Spink, 882-3085, Ext.
- Anna Ministry — This ministry is to our elderly and widowed women. A fall luncheon and a Valentine dinner are held each year to honor these dear ladies. Monthly get-togethers are also planned. Contact Karen Parks, 882-3085, Ext. 110.
- Homebound Ministry – Men and women who can seldom come to church appreciate seeing this group come to visit. If you can serve occasionally or on a regular basis, your service would be a blessing. Contact Melissa Baginski, 325-4569.
